About me
Armandean is an award-winning Mexican tattoo artist based in New York, internationally recognized for a distinctive approach that blends realism, surrealism, contemporary art, and painterly influences. With more than 15 years of experience, his work is characterized by powerful compositions, dramatic contrast, rich textures, and the interaction between dark imagery and vibrant color.
Throughout his career, Armandean has been invited to tattoo and present his work at some of the tattoo industry’s most recognized international conventions across the United States, Europe, Latin America, and Asia. His convention history includes Gods of Ink Tattoo Convention in Frankfurt, Milano Tattoo Convention, The London Tattoo Convention, China Tattoo Convention, New York Empire State Tattoo Expo, and The New York Tattoo Convention, among many others.
His work has earned multiple awards throughout his international convention career. At the 2024 All American Tattoo Convention, Armandean received Best Tattoo of the Event, as well as First, Second, and Third Place in the Large Color Tattoo category. His continued presence at major international events has established him as a recognized figure within the contemporary realism tattoo community.
His work and artistic philosophy have also been featured by international tattoo publications including Inked Magazine and Tattoo Life, alongside other industry media and curated selections of internationally recognized tattoo artists.
Today, Armandean is the founder and owner of Shelter Studio NYC, a private tattoo studio in New York dedicated to high-level custom tattooing and collaborations with internationally recognized guest artists.
He is currently part of the professional artist teams of World Famous Tattoo Ink, Cheyenne Tattoo Equipment, and Hustle Butter Deluxe, three internationally established brands within the professional tattoo industry.
Armandean specializes primarily in large-scale custom work, including full sleeves, back pieces, portraits, surreal compositions, and complex color and black-and-grey projects. Each piece is developed individually around the client’s anatomy, concept, and personal story, with an emphasis on creating original artwork rather than reproducing existing designs.
Based in New York and working with collectors from around the world, Armandean continues to develop a visual language in which tattooing, contemporary art, and the human body become part of the same composition.
